Everton youngster Ademola Lookman snubs Nigeria, pledges future to England

Everton youngster, Ademola Lookman, who was born in England to parents from Nigeria, has snubbed his home country to play for the English side.
The young footballer reportedly pledged his future to England after holding face-to-face talks with Under-21 head coach Aidy Boothroyd over stories linking him to Nigeria.
This comes weeks after Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr who is preparing his squad for next summer's Africa Cup of Nations said he 'wanted to change his mind so he can play for us as he will add something to our team'.
England Under-21 head coach Aidy Boothroyd confirmed on Tuesday evening the youngster who was part of the Under-20 squad that won the World Cup in 2017 has pledged his future to his birth country.
"Every time I see him I have a little joke with him about it,' said Boothroyd. 'I say: "Why would you want to leave us?"
'But he's very focused on England – that's what he tells me. He says he wants to play international football for England.'
Speaking  Lookman's difficult year after moving to Germany to join RB Leipzig on loan before returning back Everton, Aidy said:
'He's had a tough time of it, but he's been better recently,' said Boothroyd. 'He got himself into a state over summer when he didn't know where he would be playing or if he would be moving or not. Now he has just got his head around the fact that wherever it is he is playing, he has to play well.
'He has told himself "I just have
to focus on me" which is right. When you look at Dominic Solanke, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Tammy Abraham, Reiss Nelson, Ryan Sessegnon and Ademola, we have some real attacking talent.'

BEYOND CRAZY HAIRSTYLES, DABS AND PRANKS: CAREER LESSONS FROM PAUL POGBA

By Balikis Moyosore
Let me offer a quick caveat.
What you are about to read is not so much about football. It’s a story about the rise and fall of a mist; of why our stories are never a linear plot and why success can be failure encased in a shiny wrap.
Granted, you may not have mustered the courage to drag yourself, like this writer, to some oven called a “viewing centre” almost every weekend just to watch your team play, and perhaps, engage in an argument or two. And never mind the suffocating odour oozing from those sullied armpits or that rowdiness that mirrors Idumota bedlam.
But if you believe in dreams and the latent power of the human spirit, 24-year-old Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba offers a refreshing story that could become a blockbuster any day - depending on how you choose to explore the narrative.

But, first off, how would that script have been written? I will offer a quick guide.
Just over six or so years ago, the Frenchman was deemed surplus to requirement at Old Trafford under the reign of Sir Alex Ferguson. Perhaps, the scot just couldn’t figure out why the chap should be selected way ahead of the many midfielders that dotted the club at the time. Remember the likes of J.S. Park, Anderson, Danny Welbeck, Ashley Young, Paul Scholes and the then phenomenal Macheda?

No doubt, for a manager of Fergie’s pedigree, you needed to be an Ohan Cruyff to point fingers at his selection style. Or, in Mourinho’s fashion, you will have to be as successful as Ferguson first before mustering the moral authority to puff out your armchair punditry.
Perhaps, there were personal issues in the dressing room – even though Pogba himself dismissed that possibility in one of his press conferences prior to his arrival at Old Trafford. Perhaps, the 20-time EPL title winning manager just couldn’t trust the ability of the youngster. And to confirm that distrust, Ferguson opted to use then right-back Rafael Da Silva in a midfield role when the Red Devils faced Blackburn in December 2011, leaving Pogba to bite his lips on the bench.

That was the height – at least – for anyone who has the slightest grasp of a football team formation. And the situation got no better.
To end a long, boring story, in 2012, the youngster was shipped out to Serie A side Juventus, and there and then, a new story was afoot. But it was not a fairytale either, considering that his first season with the Italian giants saw him grab 37 appearances with just five goals to show for it. And the story went on.

Then, enter 2016. The eyes of United’s scouts wandered all the way down to Turin in Italy, and Pogba was the cynosure of their eyes. For a club in need of reinforcement in the middle of the pack, it was only common to assume Pogba will rekindle the memories of a Paul Scholes spraying pinging passes or a Roy Keane dictating the tempo of the game. By the time the young Frenchman featured in the first two games for the Red Devils, Pogba offered glimpses of his energy, presence and composure in United’s midfield – even though this was later to be followed by a run of drab spells.
For now, Pogba is far from being the smash hit everyone anticipated. Often a subject of attack and hatred in the court of public opinion, there are interesting lessons to be gleaned from his narrative.

First, Pogba’s story reminds us that human memory is fickle, and at best, selective of what it chooses to remember. Let me be a bit specific.
Society doesn’t really give a damn about track records, as much as we tend to flash that card. It’s a deeper irony that should prick us much more than the way President Buharihandled the Babachir grass-cutting saga or the herdsmen crisis.
Check Pogba, for instance. When he rises to the occasion, everyone cheers, oblivious of his previous unimpressive displays. Newspaper headlines merely follow that fashion, leaving all of us drooling. In those moments, all his "sins" are forgiven. But it’s when he struggles that critic – especially fans of rival football clubs and pundits – remember to flash his hefty price tag before our face as a yardstick for measuring his impact.
And here is the point.

Achievements on a previous job may get you in the door, but that marking scheme soon changes once you fade into the daily grind of some cubicle or corner office. The honeymoon ends the very day you get inducted into that organization; the very day you shed that newbie toga. It’s either you perform or perish.
So, while on the job, you will have to work your ass enough to justify the flowery tang of your resume. Forget your awards; forget the eulogies from your previous bosses. Forget everything. Every job offers a blank slate to write a new story and justify the sublimit of your resume. And until you hit a home run in your current job, your previous heroics are nothing. Absolutely nothing!
In the end, life is just another story with a compound-complex plot. It is capricious; sometimes you burn, other times you crash – apologies to John Legend. Sometimes, the sail is as smooth as silk. Other times, you course through life, wishing it never happened.
But in the end, only one thing counts: you succeed or fail. If you don’t choose the former, you can never miss the later.

JUST IN!!! Fulham Sack Manager Slavisa Jokanovic, Appoint Claudio Ranieri

Fulham have sacked manager Slavisa Jokanovic and replaced him with Claudio Ranieri, who guided Leicester to the Premier League title in 2016.
Jokanovic makes way with the Cottagers sitting bottom of the Premier League table with five points from 12 matches.
Italian Ranieri, 67, has been given a “multi-year” contract by the Londoners.
“Making a change without having the right answer or succession plan was not an option,” said Fulham chairman Shahid Khan.
Claudio Ranieri
“So having someone of Claudio’s calibre ready to accept our challenge was comforting but, most of all, essential.
“Claudio is risk-free and ready-made for the Premier League, and particularly so for what we need at this moment at Fulham.
“His recent body of work with Leicester City is literally legendary, and then you look at Claudio’s experience with Chelsea and big clubs throughout Europe, and it’s pretty evident we are welcoming an extraordinary football man to Fulham Football Club.”

FASHION! NOT INDECENCY

                          FASHION! NOT INDECENCY

By Balikis Moyosore

She was rushing to get a good seat for lecture, the lecturer was coming in sight, she hurriedly sat down in one of the front row seats, ready to receive the lecture of the day, and all eyes in the class set in her direction almost at once. Rising up an eyebrow to follow their glances, alas! Her shiny, lousy waste beads were dangling on top her visible lingerie, diverting the whole class attentions to her backside.

An African adage says, ‘’he who is harsh knows, he is just pretending not to know’’, with all indications, it’s obvious the student knows what she wore is provocative but decides to ignore for her colleagues to think she is fashionable. Then I ask questions in my mind, is she truly fashionable? Is this fashion? What is fashion?

Fashion! The latest and most admired style in clothes and cosmetics and behavior according to a dictionary. It is no lie that fashion is a way of life and one can unapologetically say you make the impression people will have about you from the way you appear. Since you don’t have a second chance to make first impression, it will be of great wisdom if your dressing can make applaudable first impression.

In this century, almost everybody wants to be fashionable. Of course, it is not news that fashion has been in incept ever since man has been, but fashion increases from generation to generation meaning what is considered fashionable in generations before now, is seen out of vogue in this new generation or revolutionize to suit the latest styles.

Over time, a debate has since been established in the fashion world as to indecent dressing in the fashion world. Indecent dressing is becoming a trending habit embraced by all ages in the societal context. It is right to say fashion in the olden days is about what you wear, but to many in the modern days, it is about the contrary.

Fashion is now about how daring you can be in the ‘’bare-it-for-all-to-see’’ game. You don’t seem to be exposed if you aren’t daring enough. The rate of indecent dressing in the society cannot be overemphasized, as social institutions are the ones championing indecency in the name of fashion.

It is alarming how indecent dressing is fast becoming a societal norm, not excluding places of worship where decency and holiness are meant to be the order of the day. We cannot talk about the media as well in this regard. One can’t argue that the purpose of clothing is to cover man’s indecency. Dressing is meant to make you feel comfortable as a person, it’s meant to make you look presentable in the eyes of all in the society and not the other way round.

It is right to say the media have not been helpful to portray fashion in a way it used to be portrayed. Entertainers with their works have so far described fashion as an expression of self and art. Both music stars and on-screen characters now step out in extremely ribald outfit making people thread their paths in fashion.

One don’t have to vulgarize fashion to be fashionable or dress in a trendy style, looking classically fashionable in your dress sense not only speaks well of you but also cause for people to admire you without negative vibe.

NO SHAVE NOVEMBER

NO SHAVE NOVEMBER

By Balikis Moyosore

Although a fashion trend for men to show off their facial hair growing capacities or to be inducted into the Beard Gang Hall of fame, No Shave November according to no-shave.org is a “month-long journey during which participants forgo shaving and grooming in order to evoke conversation and raise cancer awareness.”
The goal of the month s to grow awareness by encouraging men to keep and groom their hair, which most cancer patients lose and letting it grow wild and free. Men are encouraged to donate the money spent on grooming and shaving their hair to support and educate about cancer prevention, save lives and aid those fighting the battles. Of course like any other trend is born or promoted heavily through social media, the purpose gets lost in the noise. Most people think it is an excuse for men to be bums and not shave, others think it is a tactic to entice, impress and ensnare women or to show off. It can be all that and still raising awareness and money for a great cause.

COMMON HAIR REMOVAL BLUNDERS TO AVOID

SHARING A RAZOR/ USING A DIRTY RAZOR: when you share a razor or use a dirty one, it can cause folliculitis (infections of hair follicle), spread of warts, jock itch or herpes.

DRY SHAVING: dry shaving may save you some time to get rid of a couple of quick hairs, it can also cause skin irritation and increase your risks of skin cuts and nicks. Shave the right way, in or after the shower, when the skin and hairs are soft and dehydrated. Make use of shaving gel as it helps the blades glide on the skin and can prevent you from cutting yourself.

OVER PLUCKING YOUR EYEBROWS: avoid plucking your eyebrows because it can end up damaging your hair follicles resulting in the hairs not growing back. It can also make your eyes look too close together, the bridge of your nose look wider and even make your face look heavier.

GETTING WAXED THE WEEK BEFORE YOUR PERIOD: steer clear of hair removal services such as waxing and laser hair removal a week before your menstrual cycle. During this week women tend to be more sensitive, so ripping, pulling or zapping can feel much worse. Plus hair follicles may swell and skin can stay redder longer.

SHAVING WITH SOAP: many ladies probably use soap to shave in a pinch, while some use it regularly, but there isn’t enough glide at all. Soap is drying to the skin. It doesn’t allow the razor blade to glide across the surface. The razor gets stuck on the skin and nicks it. With shaving cream or gel, it provides a smooth surface so the razor can glide across and smoothly shave the legs.

SOCIAL MEDIA…FAILURE OR SUCCESS?

SOCIAL MEDIA…FAILURE OR SUCCESS?

By Balikis Moyosore

‘’If you don’t dress well and you stand in front of your mirror, what your mirror would do is to reflect your image back to you’’.
This saying reflects as a perfect example and shows the current setback in the performances of students in Nigeria, as most of them are obsessed with the social media world and refused to perceive the effect of it in their academic performances, which in turn confirmtheir poor and disorganized academic life.
The ever busy activities of students on the trending social media have got one wondering if their absolute focus lies on social media or studies and also kept one contemplating the effect of it on their academic performances, doubting whether social media is a failure or success to students.
Especially those students who tend to check their facebook and twitter while studying and use their instant messenger to disrupt classroom activities.
The social media, according to Wikipedia, is a social interaction among people in which they create, share or exchange information, ideas, and pictures/videos in virtual communities and networks.
Over the years, social media has exposed students continuously to new ideas and gave them a big chance to feed their creativity by making them more aware of basic aspects of design that are not often taught in schools, taking a look at how students can customize their profile.
Also, the ease and speed with which they can upload pictures or stories has resulted in a better amount of sharing of creative works and improve their artistic abilities.
With social networking, students have learned how to work well in groups and increase productivity with quality of collaboration for them.
Time spent working with new technologies has help students develop more familiarity with computers and other electronic devices which will help them build skills on technology in education and business.
Unlike in the past, when people go through different strain before getting information on trending matters, now, social media provide first hand update on news of national, educative and other essential subject.
However, the social media with all these, has done as much good as bad to our educational structure given the way it has come to stay and will be ever trending.
In the last four years, the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results released by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) have been nothing short of a national disappointment.
And recently, it was publicized that this year, 70 per cent of the pupils who sat for WAEC exams failed. I think this massive failure taking a good look at it is well linked with the fact that, most of these pupils no longer have zeal for their studies.
Despite the facts that some of them are not naturally brilliant, you will find out that majority of them arenow very active on social media.
They spend most of their time by being busy on social network and learning how to communicate on yahoo, to become skilled with sham acts, and other sites where they keep conversation going with both their male and female friends.
The same goes to the results from the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam this year, where only 49 per cent scored above 200. Very poor!
I don’t think it should be shocking if I say some of these students, even before graduating from secondary schools, already smoke, drink, and engage in all kinds of dreadful manners.
Most of them are not ready to read their books as they believe in exam malpractices but they are ever ready to surf internet.
Again, the topical issue of the Nigeria Law Studentswith the last Bar final exams that turned out awful.
Although, the former President of the Nigerian Bar Association and Chairman of the Council of Legal Education, Onueze Okocha argued that about 33 percent failed while 51 percent passed.
He claimed the Medias exaggerated by saying over 50 percent of the students failed but not withstanding, it was a most unfortunate development the way the exams turned out.
He also said after they made inquiries into the matter, it was discovered that some of the students were not taking their studies seriously.
And that, some of them were using their iphones, ipads, blackberry phones and other mobile gadgets to communicate with their friends on social networking site while classes and tutorials were going on.
These are all parts of the havoc social media is causing in our educational institutions.
Students have used social media privilege to prop up what is called cyber bullying. An illegal motion that is accomplished by lousy guys and girls by executing unfavorable actions like insulting other folks on World Wide Web by sending illegal text, photo, or online video.
Social media reduces student’s ability to effectively write without relying on a computer’s spell check feature due to social media creation of sloppy attitude towards proper spelling and grammar.
Many students rely on accessibility of information on social media specifically and the web in general to provide answers which means a reduced focus on learning and retaining information.
Students from time to time derive enthusiasm in insulting their teachers or mates who make them come to feel offended or disappointed through their facebook or twitter.
However, with the success and failure it has achieved in the life of students, they have to understand they need to be addicted more to their academics than social media world and resist the temptation of giving social media their total attention.
It is very important for students to realize they have to pay more attention to their academic progress and address any issues concerning their studies because this will go a long way towards keeping the negative aspects of social media from influencing their studies.
Also, students should give ample time for face-to-face social interaction so as to lessen the amount of time spent on social network sites.
Another significant fact they have to comprehend is that, potential employers investigate an applicant’s social networking profiles before granting interviews or acceptance.
This can bring about negative consequences months or years down the road for many of those students who don’t constantly evaluate the content they’re publishing online.
Just like those who are emulating celebrities by posting half nude or completely nude picture/videos on instagram. Another social media application that was launched four years ago and as of December, 2014 has gained over 300 million users.
The instagram is widely used to take, share pictures and videos online. And now, what most celebrities do is share their nude pictures on it. This is what youths are trying to imitate in the name of ‘breaking the internet’.
Students should try and become conscious that this will do them no good, except cause them more harm than any good.
